Cowboys decline to pick up Henry Melton's 3-year option

Henry Melton is set to hit the open market for the second consecutive year.

The Dallas Cowboys have declined to pick up the three-year option on the defensive tackle's contract, Brandon George of the Dallas Morning News reports. Melton would have been guaranteed $9 million in 2015 had the team decided to bring him back.

Melton's agent, Jordan Woy, later confirmed the news.

Melton was coming off a torn ACL when he signed a one-year deal with the Cowboys in March 2014. He recorded 15 tackles and five sacks in 16 games before landing on injured reserve with a knee injury.
