The fate of Ryane Clowe's NHL career appears to be in question.

New Jersey Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello ruled the rugged forward out for the remainder of the season on Friday, adding Clowe's long-term future in the game is uncertain.

Clowe has not played since Nov. 6 after suffering an apparent concussion, his fourth in the past two years.

This past summer, he revealed he had been encouraged to stop fighting in order to protect his head.

The 32-year-old, limited to 56 games since signing with the Devils, recorded eight goals, 22 assists and 37 penalty minutes with the club.
