Browns owner Haslam says Josh Gordon has failed to accept responsibility

Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam is quickly growing tired of Josh Gordon's antics, criticizing the receiver Wednesday for his one-year suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy.

It was not Gordon's first infraction. The wideout breached the policy once for using marijuana, and was also arrested for DWI in July 2014.

"We spent a tremendous amount of time on Josh," Haslam told Northeast Ohio Media Group's Tom Reed. "At a certain point in time an individual has to take care of themselves and do what's right - not just for themselves ... but for the team, the coaches, the people in the building, the fans.

"Josh has failed to accept that responsibility. I hope he can get his life together, he's immensely gifted."

Gordon is one of the NFL's best receivers when on the field, leading the league with 1,646 receiving yards over 14 games in 2013.

And Gordon isn't the only player on the Browns battling off-field issues, with quarterback Johnny Manziel entering rehab in the offseason for an undisclosed matter.

It's somewhat ironic that Haslam is preaching culpability, given that his own company, Pilot Flying J, faced fraud charges resulting in a $92-million settlement penalty last summer.

The Browns' owner didn't make a definitive declaration on Gordon's future with the club.

"That's a decision that we will need to look at make a certain point," Haslam said. "He's out for a year so there's no huge hurry. We'll address that at the proper time."
