Carmelo Anthony wants Amar'e Stoudemire to stick it out in New York

Amar'e Stoudemire claims he hasn't made up his mind about whether to ask the New York Knicks to buy out the remainder of his contract, but teammate Carmelo Anthony hopes to talk him out of it.

Anthony said he hasn't spoken to Stoudemire - whose contract expires at the end of the season - about his future, but would like to see his teammate stay with the Knicks, according to Newsday's Al Iannazzone.

It's a bit of a strange ask, and arguably even a selfish one, given that Anthony appears likely to undergo knee surgery and shut down his season in the very near future.

"I’m still a New York Knick and I plan on being here for a while. Until things change," Stoudemire said, rather ambiguously, on Saturday.

Stoudemire was pegged as the new face of the franchise when he signed for five years and $100 million in 2010. He had a successful first season, and when Anthony joined the fray midway through the 2010-2011, it was assumed the two would form a dynamic tandem to make the Knicks contenders for at least the next half-decade.

Instead, Stoudemire was beset by injuries, and due to a dearth of defense, the pairing with Anthony never quite worked out the way many had hoped.

The Knicks have won just one playoff series since bringing the two stars aboard, and have hit a new low, in the midst of the worst season in franchise history at 10-42.
