Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert said talks have commenced regarding quarterback Ben Roethlisberger's contract extension, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport

Roethlisberger is coming off an excellent campaign, where he threw for a league-high (tied with Drew Brees) 4,952 yards and 32 touchdowns against nine interceptions.

Pittsburgh was eliminated from the playoffs by division rival Baltimore on Jan. 3.

The Steelers' star has one year remaining on his existing deal and is slated to be paid $11.6 million in base salary for the 2015 campaign.

Roethlisberger has spent the entirety of his 11-year career with the Steelers, winning two Super Bowls in three appearances.
