LeBron declines to clarify tweets, Love says there's 'no problem'

David Richard-USA TODAY Sports

Why would a player ever take the opportunity to put an end to a news cycle after describing it as wack and corny?

LeBron James was asked again Tuesday about the media storm he caused by tweeting a message that appeared to be directed towards Cleveland Cavaliers' teammate Kevin Love on Saturday, but he declined to clarify.

As a recap, James tweeted the following:

The comments were a pretty clear dig at Love, who had used the same phrasing early in the season when speaking of the adjustments he was making on a new team. With Love's season still up-and-down, it seemed James was publicly pushing his teammate to get with the program.

"It's not a coincidence, man," James then told reporters Sunday, passing up on the opportunity to clarify his comments.

James then incredulously blamed the media for making a story out of nothing with a pair of tweets on Monday.

"If I have a problem with a teammate or anyone I'll say to their face and not over social media. That's corny and wack!" James wrote via a series of tweet.

Yes, it would be, and it was. When he did it. Just the other day.

Again Tuesday, James passed on the chance to close this chapter:

It's a curious move from James, who could have at least put an end to the matter, even if it was with a boiler plate quote of some sort. Instead, the impression given is that the comments were about Love and there remains some internal strife.

Love, at least, is playing it smart in public and denying any issue exists.

"I was caught off-guard when I heard about it," Love said Tuesday. "We're teammates, we see each other, there's no problem with us ... I truly feel if LeBron had a problem with me or had to talk to me for good or worse, he would've come up and talked to me. I truly believe that."

It's a little strange for apparent issues to still be present considering the Cavs have completely turned their season around, winning 13 of 14 and improving to 32-21. Maybe after a stressful first half, they all just need a week off.
