Cornerbacks

Byron Maxwell

Height: 6-1
Weight: 207 lbs.
Age: 27

2014 stats: 39 tackles, 2 interceptions, 12 passes defensed

Coming off his first full season as a starter, Maxwell figures to be a hot commodity in free agency because of his age, size and ability to play outside and in the slot. The former sixth-round pick was a bargain for the Seattle Seahawks, but could command as high as $4 million per season on the open market.

Potential landing spots: Seattle Seahawks, Philadelphia Eagles, Pittsburgh Steelers, Atlanta Falcons, New York Jets, Dallas Cowboys, Jacksonville Jaguars, Baltimore Ravens

Brandon Flowers

Height: 5-9
Weight: 187 lbs.
Age: 29

2014 stats: 52 tackles, 3 interceptions, 10 passes defensed

Groin injury and concussion aside, Flowers' first season in San Diego was a success. He started 14 games for the Chargers and helped bolster a pass defense that went from a 29th-place finish in yards allowed per game in 2013 (258.7) to fourth in 2014 (214.2).

Potential landing spots: San Diego Chargers, Philadelphia Eagles, Pittsburgh Steelers, New York Jets, Jacksonville Jaguars, Baltimore Ravens

Antonio Cromartie

Height: 6-2
Weight: 210 lbs.
Age: 30

2014 stats: 48 tackles, 3 interceptions, 10 passes defensed

After a disappointing 2013 campaign with the New York Jets, Cromartie signed a one-year, prove-it deal with the Arizona Cardinals. He was hampered by an ankle injury towards the end of the season, but certainly proved his worth, playing 594 snaps in coverage – the 10th-highest total among cornerbacks, according to Pro Football Focus.

Potential landing spots: Arizona Cardinals, Philadelphia Eagles, New York Jets, New Orleans Saints, Buffalo Bills, Indianapolis Colts

Kareem Jackson

Height: 5-10
Weight: 188 lbs.
Age: 26

2014 stats: 57 tackles, 3 interceptions, 9 passes defensed

A five-year starter with the Houston Texans, Jackson is hitting the open market for the first time since being drafted 20th overall in the 2010 draft. He was used both outside and in the slot last season and saw the second-most snaps (740) behind Johnathan Joseph. That number might have been higher had Jackson not missed three games with a sprained MCL.

Potential landing spots: Houston Texans, Philadelphia Eagles, New York Jets, New Orleans Saints, Minnesota Vikings, Atlanta Falcons, Washington Redskins

Tramon Williams

Height: 5-11
Weight: 191 lbs.
Age: 31

2014 stats: 70 tackles, 3 interceptions, 13 passes defensed

Williams started all 16 regular-season games for the Green Bay Packers in 2014 for the third year in a row, leading the team in interceptions and finishing fourth in tackles. He's one of the NFL's most durable cornerbacks, but his age (he turns 32 in March) could be a deterrent for some teams.

Potential Landing Spots: Green Bay Packers, Philadelphia Eagles, New York Jets, New Orleans Saints, Oakland Raiders

Other notable free-agent cornerbacks

  • Cary Williams
  • Chris Culliver
  • Perrish Cox
  • Buster Skrine
  • Tarell Brown

Safeties

Devin McCourty

Height: 5-10
Weight: 195 lbs.
Age: 27

2014 stats: 68 tackles, 2 interceptions, 6 passes defensed, 1 forced fumble

As the best safety available in a weak free-agent class, McCourty figures to attract a lot of attention this offseason. He's been a rock for the New England Patriots since they drafted him 27th overall in 2010, starting 77 out of a possible 80 regular-season games and earning two All-Pro selections.

Potential landing spots: New England Patriots, Atlanta Falcons, New York Jets, New York Giants, Jacksonville Jaguars, Tennessee Titans, Denver Broncos, Minnesota Vikings

Rahim Moore

Height: 6-1
Weight: 195 lbs.
Age: 25

2014 stats: 49 tackles, 4 interceptions, 5 passes defensed, 2 forced fumbles

After nearly losing his leg to lateral compartment syndrome in 2013, Moore rebounded with one of the best statistical campaigns of his career while starting all 16 regular-season games for the Denver Broncos. He's young, but brings plenty of experience to the table, having advanced to the playoffs in each of his first four NFL seasons.

Potential landing spots: Denver Broncos, New York Giants, Philadelphia Eagles, Miami Dolphins, Chicago Bears, New England Patriots

Antrel Rolle

Height: 6-0
Weight: 206 lbs.
Age: 32

2014 stats: 87 tackles, 3 interceptions, 9 passes defensed, 1 forced fumble

Durability isn't an issue for Rolle, who has missed just one game in the past nine seasons. His play took a bit of a step back in 2014, particularly in run support, but there's no denying the impact he has had on the Giants since joining the team in 2010. In each of his five seasons with the team, Rolle has finished second or better in tackles.

Potential Landing Spots: New York Giants, Tennessee Titans, Baltimore Ravens

Da'Norris Searcy

Height: 5-11
Weight: 207 lbs.
Age: 26

2014 stats: 65 tackles, 3 interceptions, 5 passes defensed, 1 forced fumble

Searcy did a solid job at replacing the departed Jairus Byrd in 2014, starting 13 games and allowing just 47.4 percent of the passes thrown against him to be completed. He played strong safety last season, but has experience playing free safety as well. At 26 years old, Searcy's best football years may still be yet to come.

Potential landing spots: Buffalo Bills, Carolina Panthers, Atlanta Falcons, New York Giants, Dallas Cowboys

Mike Adams

Height: 5-11
Weight: 200 lbs.
Age: 33

2014 stats: 87 tackles, 5 interceptions, 11 passes defensed, 2 forced fumbles

Adams joined the Colts in 2014 after two disappointing seasons in Denver and went on to produce career-highs in tackles and interceptions while earning his first Pro Bowl nod. He also tied the NFL lead with seven takeaways. The biggest question mark with Adams is his age, but he proved last season that he's still got plenty left in the tank.

Potential landing spots: Indianapolis Colts, Carolina Panthers, Denver Broncos, Minnesota Vikings

Other notable free-agent safeties

  • Louis Delmas
  • Tyvon Branch
  • Stevie Brown
  • LaRon Landry
