Anderson Silva: 'I have not taken any performance-enhancing drugs'

Former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva released a statement through his co-manager, Jorge Guimares, to MMAjunkie regarding the drug test he failed prior to his victory over Nick Diaz at UFC 183.

Much like the discussion he had with the medical director of the Brazilian MMA Athletic Commission, Dr. Marcio Tannure, "The Spider" is denying any usage of performance-enhancing drugs.

The statement reads:

I've been competing in this sport for a very long time. This is my 19th fight in the UFC. I have been thoroughly tested many times and have never had a positive drug test.

I have not taken any performance-enhancing drugs. My stances on drug is, and will always be, the same. I am an advocate for a clean sport.

I'm consulting with my advisors right now to explore all my options and intend to fight this allegation and clear my name. I will not make any further comments until my team advises me to do so.

Silva tested positive for drostanolone and endogenous in a pre-fight drug screening, while Diaz tested positive for marijuana following the bout.

Meanwhile, UFC president Dana White released a statement Wednesday confirming Silva will still serve as a coach in the upcoming season of "The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil."
