Peyton Manning doesn't want decision on return to linger

Peyton Manning is still contemplating his NFL future but plans to make a decision in the near future.

Newsday's Bob Glauber spoke to the Denver Broncos passer and reports Manning wants to make a decision sooner rather than later.

"I'm not interested in making this a lingering thing. I'd like to make a decision soon," Manning said.

Manning said he still has it in his heart to compete but wants to ensure he is physically capable of playing at a high level: "It’s one thing to play and have a uniform and be on the roster. It’s another to truly be able to contribute and help."

The disappointing way the Broncos' season ended won't impact his decision to return, though.

Broncos general manager John Elway and new head coach Gary Kubiak have both made it clear they want Manning back.

If Manning is on the Broncos' roster on the last day of the NFL's league year in March, his 2015 salary becomes fully guaranteed.
