Report: Richard Sherman dealing with torn elbow ligaments

Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman is dealing with torn ligaments in his elbow, according to Ed Werder of ESPN.

Sherman is not expected to miss the Super Bowl, but this is the first report of the potentially severe injury.

The All-Pro corner told Werder he won't undergo any further treatment, as the elbow has improved every day since the NFC Championship.

Earlier reports indicated that an MRI showed a sprained elbow.

The ailment could limit his effectiveness Sunday, and the full extent of the injury is unlikely to be known until after the game. The Patriots are expected to target Sherman extensively to test his playmaking abilities.

Sherman had an interception in both playoff games he's played this year and has been performing at an elite level in the second half of the season. With safety Earl Thomas also banged up, the Seahawks need Sherman healthy enough to make an impact on Super Bowl Sunday.
