Report: NFL threatened to eject Marshawn Lynch over gold cleats

Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch did not get to wear his custom gold cleats after all.

According to FOX Sports' Jay Glazer, the NFL threatened to eject Lynch from Sunday's NFC Championship Game were he to wear the shoes. Glazer reported that the Seahawks were unsure whether Lynch would comply, but the running back was wearing green cleats during warmups and kept them on for the game.

The punishment also would have extended into the Super Bowl and made Lynch ineligible to play in that game if the Seahawks advance, according to ESPN's Ed Werder.

The custom cleats, which feature 24-karat gold flake paint and gold chrome plates, reportedly cost Lynch $1,100.
