The NHL Department of Player Safety video shows Marchand kicking Brassard's skates out while shoving his upper body backward, which fits the definition of slew-footing. The proximity to the boards makes the action even more dangerous.

The video also cites Marchand's status as a repeat offender as a factor in the decision. The 26-year-old has been suspended twice and fined once previously in his career.
