The Los Angeles Clippers waived point guard Jordan Farmar on Friday after completing a buyout of his contract, the team announced.

Farmar, who signed a two-year, $4.2-million deal with the Clippers in the offseason, averaged 4.6 points, 1.9 assists and 1.2 rebounds in 36 games in a reserve role. The eight-year veteran is free to sign with any team.

"I was surprised that it got to this, but yet it became mutual," Farmar said, according to Brad Turner of the Los Angeles Times

"I just never felt I had a real role. We talked in the off season about what my job was going to be. ... The opportunity just wasn't the same. It was never time for me to really ever get going, and feel comfortable and feel like I had a place on the team."

Los Angeles now has an open roster spot and has been linked to recent free agent guard Nate Robinson, who hit the open market after being bought out by the Boston Celtics following a trade from the Denver Nuggets.
