C.J. Spiller: Jets and I 'would be a perfect match'

Pending free agent C.J. Spiller thinks the New York Jets could be the ideal fit for his skill set.

The Buffalo Bills running back will hit free agency in March, and with the Jets expected to hire his former head coach, Chan Gailey, to run the offense, it could be a perfect marriage.

"There is that familiarity between me and him in that offense," Spiller told the Daily News on Thursday. "So that would be a perfect match. Who knows what can happen, but I'd be foolish not to have those guys on my list. I had my best years in the league with Chan. So it'd be dumb not to give it serious thought."

The Jets are desperate for a running back with his home run potential. In 2014, they managed only five runs of 20-plus yards on 353 attempts.

Spiller also indicated he would not be intimidated by the big-city spotlight of New York.

"I have thick skin," Spiller said. "I don't get sensitive to what's said. I know what type of player I am. I know I can make plays in this league. It's proven. It’s on tape.

"I'm not going to let a big market or big city scare me away," he added. "I grew up in a small town, but I can adapt very well to new environments."

Spiller is coming off a down season in which he only rushed the ball 78 times for 300 yards and missed eight weeks with a broken collarbone. 

The Bills have expressed interest in keeping the 27-year-old around, as Rex Ryan has indicated he's a fan of the Clemson alum.
