Report: Celtics complete buyout of Nate Robinson, who could head to Clippers
Nate Robinson's second tour of duty as a Boston Celtic lasted less than 24 hours.
Acquired from the Denver Nuggets for Jameer Nelson on Tuesday, Robinson and the Celtics have already reached a buyout agreement, making him a free agent.
The Celtics never intended to keep Robinson on their roster, instead making the deal with Denver to save a little bit of money and clear Nelson's 2015-16 player option off the books.
Robinson should have suitors as a free agent, and the Los Angeles Clippers are said to be a potential suitor. The Clippers have an open roster spot and could offer Robinson the veteran minimum while staying below the luxury tax apron, meaning a reunion for Robinson and coach Doc Rivers is possible.
The Clippers have also been linked to Austin Rivers, currently a temporary Celtic himself, but it's unclear if L.A. would want to land both players or if it would be one or the other.
In 33 games with Denver, Robinson was averaging 5.8 points and 2.3 assists in 14.1 minutes, shooting a woeful 34.8 percent from the floor. Those numbers are far below the level of play he established the past three seasons. But at age 30, and coming off a significant injury that cost him the second half of 2013-14, it's possible Robinson has lost a step.
