Jrue Holiday questionable Wednesday with ankle inflammation

Sam Sharpe-USA TODAY Sports

The newly thinned out New Orleans Pelicans guard rotation could be put to the test Wednesday against the Detroit Pistons.

Starting point guard Jrue Holiday, who left Monday's game in the second quarter and did not return, is listed as questionable for the game due to right ankle inflammation. That would leave the Pelicans in tough, with Jimmer Fredette or an out-of-position Tyreke Evans left to handle lead-guard duties.

Anthony Davis is the Pelicans' best player, with little question, but Holiday averages 33.7 minutes with sub-par backups. As a result, the team drops off by 8.4 points per 100 possessions when he sits - the second most extreme mark behind Davis. When the pair play together, the Pelicans are tough to beat, and when they're apart or both on the bench, New Orleans is easy work for opponents.

Pelicans O-Rtg D-Rtg Net
Holiday-Davis 109.1 104.3 4.8
All Other Lineups 101.1 108.5 -7.4

In 37 games, Holiday is averaging 15.2 points, 3.5 rebounds and 7.1 assists, shooting 44.4 percent from the floor and 36.7 percent from long range. He's an incredibly active defender and uses his size and quickness very well on that end, and the Pelicans will struggle to contain the red-hot Brandon Jennings without him.
