Warriors' Thompson, Hornets' Walker named NBA Players of the Week

Sam Sharpe-USA TODAY Sports

No Al Jefferson. No Lance Stephenson. No problem.

That was the story this week for Kemba Walker, who led the Charlotte Hornets to a shorthanded 4-0 week, pushing their winning streak to five and capturing Eastern Conference Player of the Week honors in the process.

Walker scored at least 28 points in each game, finishing the week having averaged 30.3 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.5 assists - all while shooting 50 percent from the floor, 36.4 percent on threes and 89.3 percent from the line.

Already impressing in his fourth season, the robust stretch pushes Walker's season averages to 18.9 points, four rebounds and 5.4 assists. It's the second time in his career he's been the conference's best player over the course of a week.

Klay Thompson of the Golden State Warriors was named the Western Conference Player of the Week, himself helping lead his team to a perfect week. The Warriors' three wins, all coming by at least 15 points, extended their winning streak to six games.

Thompson's week was highlight by a 40-point outing against the Indiana Pacers, pushing his average for that stretch to 27.7 on 51.9 percent shooting, 50 percent from long range and 93.3 percent at the stripe. He averaged nearly a point per minute over the three games, as the multiple blowouts allowed him to check in at just 29.5 minutes.

In 33 games on the season, Thompson is averaging 21.6 points and 3.1 assists, shooting a terrific 464/.439/.874 from the floor, outside and free throw line, respectively. This marks his second Player of the Week nod of the season and second of his career.
