Jets RB Chris Johnson arrested, faces misdemeanor gun charge
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) Orlando police say New York Jets running back Christopher Johnson has been arrested and faces a misdemeanor weapons charge.
Sgt. Wanda Ford said an officer pulled Johnson over after he ran a stop sign Friday night. When the officer approached Johnson's vehicle, he said he saw a firearm between Johnson's feet. Openly carrying a gun is generally banned in Florida.
The Jets signed Johnson to a two-year, $8 million deal last April, but it was uncertain as to whether he would return to New York after having the least-productive year of his career. He rushed for a career-low 663 yards and one touchdown.
Johnson, 29, has rushed for 8,628 yards and 51 touchdowns in his career, including becoming the sixth player in NFL history to run for 2,000 yards in a season when he had 2,006 in 2009 with the Titans.
An email and text message left for Johnson's agent was not immediately returned Saturday. A team spokesman said they were aware of the incident but declined comment.
