Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger took the opportunity Friday to address reports that claimed 'keeper Wojciech Szczesny was caught smoking in the shower following his side's 2-0 loss to Southampton on New Year's Day.

Szczesny was directly responsible for both goals that Arsenal conceded in the match, and although Wenger didn't specify that the Polish 'keeper was guilty of smoking a cigarette, he did say that the player had issue an apology.

"He made a mistake, he is not the first one or the last one," Wenger said, according to the BBC. "I like Wojciech as a person and when he makes a mistake he stands up for it. I think he has contributed a lot to the good image of Arsenal and he learns from his mistakes. Of course he has apologized. He is a serious boy who works very hard, he doesn't need all that."

The incident wouldn't mark the first time an Arsenal player has been caught smoking, as images surfaced in July of Jack Wilshere smoking outside a nightclub in Las Vegas. Wilshere subsequently apologized for the images, describing them as "unacceptable."
