Report: Jones wasn't informed of failed test before UFC 182

There seems to be a bit more to the Jon Jones drug testing drama, as details of the supposed timeline of events begin to leak out.

MMAFighting.com's Ariel Helwani reported that the Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC) did not notify Jones of his failed drug test prior to his title defense against Daniel Cormier at UFC 182. According to sources close to the situation, Jones was informed about his test failure by the UFC on Monday.

The NAC tested Jones twice - once on Dec. 4 and again on Dec. 18. On Dec. 23, they learned of Jones testing positive for benzoylecgonine and informed the UFC around that time, according to NAC chairman Francisco Aguilar.

Benzoylecgonine, a primary metabolite in cocaine, is not considered a banned substance out of competition, and the NAC had little to say when asked why Jones was tested for it in the month leading up to UFC 182.

"That was a bit of an anomaly that will be addressed (at the next NAC hearing on) Jan. 12," NAC executive director Bob Bennett told Helwani. "It was not a report requested by the NAC. It appears to have been an administrative oversight."

Jones has since checked himself into a drug treatment facility.
