Bruins CEO: Being outside of NHL playoff picture is an 'utter disappointment and a failure'

Charlie Jacobs wasn't mincing words on his first day atop the Boston Bruins chain of command.

Jacobs, who took over the role of chief executive officer from father and team owner Jeremy on Tuesday, made it known that the club's performance through the first half of the season is wholly unsatisfactory.

"For us to be a team that’s out of the playoffs is absolutely unacceptable," Jacobs said, according to Fluto Shinzawa of the Boston Globe. "(The season) has been an utter disappointment and a failure. A complete failure."

As such, Jacobs intimated that he's in the process of investigating the club's management group, led by team president Cam Neely and general manager Peter Chiarelli, who expressed his displeasure with the team a day earlier.

"We’re in a constant state of evaluation right now," Jacobs said. "This is a fluid process."

Not exactly a ringing endorsement.

Heading into Wednesday's game against the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Bruins sit one point behind the Toronto Maple Leafs for the second wild card spot, with the Florida Panthers hot on their trail with games in hand.

This certainly wasn't expected from the reigning President's Trophy winners and a team with Stanley Cup aspirations, hence Jacobs' clear displeasure.
