Nets' Deron Williams ruled out with sore left side
Deron Williams has gone from probable to out.
The Brooklyn Nets point guard will miss Monday's game against the Dallas Mavericks with a sore left side, the team announced. Williams suffered a cramp in his left side and tweaked his back in Sunday's loss to the Miami Heat, forcing him to watch the last stretch of the game from the sidelines.
Kevin Garnett will also be rested on the second night of a back-to-back.
The fact the oft-injured Williams was expected to play earlier in the day likely bodes well for his status moving forward. But Williams has a history of injuries and missed two games earlier in the season with a calf issue, months after undergoing offseason surgery on both ankles.
It's been a tough stretch for the three-time All-Star, who's going through another inconsistent season in Brooklyn and has lost his starting job. Jarrett Jack will receive his ninth consecutive start at point Monday.
Jack has averaged 14.8 points. 4.9 assists and 3.9 rebounds since taking over the role.
