Report: Orioles' Showalter to meet with Rasmus on Saturday

Baltimore Orioles manager Buck Showalter is taking matters into his own hands this winter in an effort to replace one of two vacant spots in his lineup.

Showalter is scheduled to meet with Colby Rasmus on Saturday to determine whether the 28-year-old slugger is a good fit for the reigning AL East champs, according to Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun. It was previously reported that Showalter was planning to visit the free-agent outfielder at his home in Alabama.

Connolly describes the meeting as exploratory in nature, but it's believed there's mutual interest in a one-year deal worth between $6-8 million.

The Orioles have yet to fill two holes in their lineup created by the departures of corner outfield free agents Nick Markakis and Nelson Cruz.

Rasmus spent the previous four seasons in Toronto, where the left-handed hitting slugger slashed .234/.295/.433 across 408 games. The free-swinging center fielder averaged 21 homers and 23 doubles per season from 2012-2014.
