VIDEO: Kings give 4-on-5 with cherry picker a try, but Evans misses dunk

It's all happening. The Vivek Ranadive Revolution is here. Basketball as it was previously known will never be the same.

It had been reported this offseason that the Sacramento Kings owner - somewhat famous for his appearance as an unorthodox youth girls basketball coach in Malcolm Gladwell's "David vs. Goliath" - wanted his team to try some outside-the-box strategies. That included playing 4-on-5 on the defensive end, allowing a player to leak out as a cherry picker for an easy bucket.

It sounded odd, and head coach Mike Malone never utilized the strategy. He's gone now, replaced by interim head coach Tyrone Corbin, who may have tried it out on Monday.

It's hard to tell exactly if it was strategy or Reggie Evans just going rogue, but during a second-quarter possession, Evans checked himself out as the Brooklyn Nets brought the ball up the other way. Evans took a seat for most of the Nets' possession, then walked back on to the floor, and, after the Kings grabbed a defensive rebound, he was wide open underneath the basket for a pass.

But he missed the dunk. It appears the flaw in Ranadive's strategy - if it was being employed and Evans didn't just gaffe on a substitution - is that you should have a more capable offensive player as the cherry picker.

It may very well have been nothing, but let's all hope this is the start of the Kings fully embracing the 4-on-5 look.
