Chip Kelly won't commit to Nick Foles as Eagles' starter beyond this season

One of the biggest decisions facing the Philadelphia Eagles this offseason is what to do at the quarterback position.

Nick Foles opened the season as the team's starter, but has been sidelined since Week 9 with a broken collarbone. In the eight games he did play, Foles struggled to live up to his impressive 2013 campaign.

While head coach Chip Kelly remains supportive of Foles, he acknowledged Wednesday that he cannot wait another season to see what the 25-year-old is capable of.

"The reality is the reality," Kelly said, according to Zach Berman of the Philadelphia Inquirer. "I can't say, 'Hey, let's not make a decision because I need to see him play 16 more games.' In certain times we're going to have to make decisions, so you have to make it based on what you have. We don't have any control over the injury."

Foles has completed 59.8 percent of his passes for 2,163 yards with 13 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Last season, he completed 64 percent of his passes for 2,891 yards with 27 touchdowns and two interceptions.

Kelly said he will make a determination on Foles' performance by watching every pass and analyzing every decision the quarterback made this season. The Eagles must also decide what to do with backup-turned-starter Mark Sanchez, who is set to become a free agent.

"You just tell us what we have available right now, we'll take a look at it, let's detail it, let's go through the film again, let's put our heads together, let's get everybody's opinion on it and make valid decisions," Kelly said.

"It doesn't matter how much (the injury) clouds or doesn't cloud (the evaluation). That's the reality of it. (Foles) got hurt, so we have to make decisions moving forward in terms of what we're going to do."
