Special teams came up huge for the Miami Dolphins on Sunday afternoon, as defensive end Terrence Fede blocked a Jeff Locke punt for a safety in the final minute of the game to secure a 37-35 victory over the Minnesota Vikings

Vikings Lose To Dolphins On Blocked Punt For Safety

The Dolphins improve to 8-7 with the win, but are officially eliminated from playoff contention as a result of the Pittsburgh Steelers' victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. The Vikings, meanwhile, fall to 6-9.

Here's what you need to know:

  • Matt Asiata had a big game for the Vikings, rushing for 58 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 16 carries. 
  • Dolphins rookie wide receiver Jarvis Landry had eight catches for 31 yards, passing Terry Kirby for the most receptions by a rookie in franchise history with 76. He also made a crucial mistake, though, setting up a Vikings touchdown run after fumbling the ball late in the fourth quarter.
  • Fellow Dolphins wide receiver Mike Wallace had a solid afternoon, catching five passes for 58 yards and two touchdowns.
  • Vikings linebacker Chad Greenway left the game in the third quarter with a knee injury and did not return.
  • Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill completed 35-of-47 passes for 396 yards with four touchdowns and an interception.
  • Vikings rookie quarterback Teddy Bridgewater finished 19-of-26 for 259 yards with two touchdowns and an interception.
  • Vikings safety Robert Blanton tied a season high with 11 tackles.
