Report: Former Toronto FC defender Doneil Henry on verge of joining West Ham

West Ham is keen to add some depth to its defense, and they've turned their gaze to Canada for the desired player.

Multiple reports indicate the Hammers are on the verge of signing Canadian international Doneil Henry, who has 14 caps with the senior team.

Henry spent the last four seasons with Toronto FC, including this past year, when he was on loan from Cypriot side Apollon Limassol - who bought him from Toronto and immediately loaned him back to the club ahead of the recently completed MLS campaign.

He was due to begin playing with Apollon in January, but will now reportedly join West Ham, assuming he receives his work permit.

The 21-year-old has been on trial with West Ham twice before, with manager Sam Allardyce quoted by the Daily Mail as calling him "raw, but talented."

Should the work permit be granted, the deal is expected to be announced at the opening of the transfer window on Jan.1.
