Pelicans' Davis forced from game with chest contusion, status to be updated Saturday

The brilliant season that Anthony Davis is having will hopefully not be derailed too much.

The New Orleans Pelicans power forward left in the first quarter of Friday's game against the Cleveland Cavaliers with a chest contusion he suffered when taking a blow to his rib cage while jostling for position with Kevin Love.

New Orleans coach Monty Williams said Davis' status will likely be updated Saturday.

Davis only played seven minutes in the game, but the Pelicans went on to shock the Cavs without him, 119-114. Williams said afterwards that he knew Davis wouldn't return as they are "overcautious" with their players.

Davis is averaging 25.1 points, 10.6 rebounds and 2.9 blocks per game, and currently leads the NBA in Player Efficiency Rating at 32.97.
