Ohio State punishes Wisconsin to win Big Ten Championship

Thomas J. Russo-USA TODAY Sports

While many wondered if Ohio State would suffer a drop off playing with a brand new quarterback, the Buckeyes responded by trouncing Wisconsin 59-0 to claim the Big Ten Championship.

Going into Saturday's game, Ohio State quarterback Cardale Jones was the only quarterback in history to make his first career start in a power five conference championship game. This scenario would overwhelm most, but not him.

The sophomore, who came into the game with just 118 yards and two touchdowns, finished the game connecting on 12-of-17 passes for 257 yards and three touchdowns.

He got the support of a productive running game, led by running back Ezekiel Elliot, who finished with 220 yards on 20 carries, with two touchdowns.

It was unfamiliar territory for Badgers workhorse running back Melvin Gordon, who finished the game with 76 yards on 26 carries. It was the first game in ten with less than 100 yards rushing for the nation's leading rusher.

The Buckeyes defense was dominant, aside from keeping the Badgers out of the end zone, they flustered quarterback Joel Stave, who finished with just 188 yards on 17-of-43 passing with a trio of interceptions.

The win gives the Buckeyes their 11th straight victory, good for the second longest streak in the FBS behind Florida State's 29 straight.

In terms of placement in the first ever College Football Playoff, Ohio State has done all that it could to earn a spot in the top four, it's positioning remains a decision for the committee on Sunday.
