Report: Barroway considering scrapping deal to buy Coyotes, club may cut costs

Matt Kartozian / USA TODAY Sports

The future of the Arizona Coyotes may once again be clouded in doubt.

A deal struck between the club's current ownership group, IceArizona, and New York lawyer Andrew Barroway is reportedly teetering on the precipice.

From Larry Brooks of the New York Post:

Remember how a few short weeks ago Andrew Barroway was on the verge of gaining majority control of the Coyotes, the news first reported by The Post?

Not so fast, for now comes word from a plugged-in source that the deal appears to be falling apart, with Barroway seemingly on the verge of backing out.

This backwards development could affect the team's current makeup, as Brooks further reports that current ownership has told general manager Don Maloney to shed some payroll.

As it stands, the Coyotes have the fourth-lowest payroll in the NHL, but could be looking to dump some expensive veterans like Keith Yandle and long-time captain Shane Doan prior to the trade deadline.
