A trendy Calder Trophy candidate coming into the season appears as though he'll have to wait until next.
With Ilya Bryzgalov in the fold, Anaheim Ducks top prospect John Gibson is expected to play out the rest of the season with the Norfolk Admirals of the American Hockey League, Pierre LeBrun reported Thursday on TSN's Insider Trading.
Gibson, who was expected to challenge Frederik Andersen for the starter's role in Anaheim, has had the start of his season derailed by a freak groin injury suffered in warmups early last month.
The 21-year-old has a 5-2 record in seven NHL starts over the last two seasons and was called upon to backstop Anaheim in the playoffs last spring when Andersen went down to injury.
