LeBrun: Mike Babcock 'will probably' wait until season's end to discuss contract
The Detroit Red Wings want head coach Mike Babcock back behind the bench next season, but an extension isn't coming any time soon, according to ESPN's Pierre LeBrun.
On "Insider Trading" Thursday evening, LeBrun explained talks haven't stalled.
"The dialogue will continue between the Red Wings and Babcock. I think Detroit will up the ante in terms of their next offer," LeBrun said.
Babcock reportedly wants to make over $3 million per year, which will be more than general manager Ken Holland makes.
" ... My sense is right now that Babcock probably will wait until after the season or close to the end of the year to make up his mind as to whether he stays or goes," LeBrun said.
In the 10 years Babcock has coached the Red Wings, they have never missed the playoffs.
