Hoosiers sophomore Devin Davis in serious condition after being struck by vehicle

Pat Lovell-USA TODAY Sports

Indiana Hoosiers sophomore Devin Davis was struck by a vehicle driven by teammate Emmitt Holt early Saturday morning, according to a team release.

Davis was taken to Bloomington Hospital and is said to be in serious condition. Holt, a freshman, was issued citations for illegal consumption of alcohol (a misdemeanor) and operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol under age 21 (an infraction).

Holt's blood alcohol content was 0.025. The BAC limit in Indiana is .08 percent, but .02 percent for anyone younger than 21 years old - Holt is 18 years of age. Although cited for being over the legal limit, a police statement - which shed further light on the incident - said Holt was not intoxicated.

The 19-year-old Davis was unconscious when he was rushed to hospital with a head injury.

"First and foremost, our thoughts are with Devin and his family and we pray that his condition improves in the coming days," said Hoosiers coach Tom Crean.

"An injury to one of us is an injury to all of us and we are devastated by the news. We will continue to support Devin and Emmitt in every possible way and I know the Hoosier family will come together to rally for these young men. We are working to gather additional information on the accident."

The single car accident incident occurred at 17th and Indiana Avenue near the campus athletic facility after Holt dropped Davis off at a parking lot, according to the police statement.

Davis entered the roadway once Holt was driving away, which is when he was struck by the front passenger's side of a white 2012 Jeep Liberty, causing damages to the front fender and windshield.

An unspecified number of passengers were in the vehicle at the time of the accident.

Davis averaged 2.4 points and 2.6 rebounds last season in his first year at Indiana.

Holt, meanwhile, committed to the Hoosiers late in the summer. He averaged 19.8 points and 14.6 rebounds in his final season at Webster Schroeder High School in New York, according to Sports Illustrated
