Dodgers' Kershaw on catcher Ellis: 'I don't know what I'm going to do if he's not back'
A.J. Ellis is supported by at least one prominent member of the Los Angeles Dodgers' organization.
Team ace, and odds-on favorite to win the NL Cy Young Award, Clayton Kershaw made a pitch for his catcher to return for the 2015 season following the club's NL Division Series loss to the San Francisco Giants.
"I think we'd be losing a lot if we let him go," Kershaw said, reports Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times. "I know A.J. will land on his feet, but we need him here a lot."
Kershaw credited Ellis for helping him enjoy his best season on the mound, complimenting the 33-year-old's preparation and game calling.
"I don't know what I'm going to do if he's not back," Kershaw said.
Ellis, who made $3.55 million in his second year of arbitration eligibility, is under team control through 2016, but is a potential non-tender candidate after hitting a measly .191 with three homers and a .577 OPS.
