Jerry Jones: Morris Claiborne isn't living up to expectations

When the Dallas Cowboys traded to move up to the sixth pick in the 2012 draft in order to select cornerback Morris Claiborne, they envisioned a Deion Sanders-esque future for the former LSU standout.

The oft-injured Claiborne hasn't lived up to the Cowboys' lofty expectations, though, and has seen his stock tumble as a result.

“Is he what we had hoped for at this point when we drafted him with the sixth overall pick, giving up the (second-round) pick to go up to the sixth pick to get him? No,” Cowboys owner Jerry Jones told KRLD-FM radio (via The Star-Telegram). “But he’s going to be a good player.”

Despite his obvious struggles, Jones isn't ready to close the book on Claiborne, citing the young cornerback's strong training camp as an example of the type of player he can be.

“Morris had a really good training camp and very competitive and then he suffered a little setback there injury wise and didn’t quite get it back by the time we left training camp,” Jones said.

The Cowboys will play the New Orleans Saints in Week 4.
