Manziel 'f---ing proud' of Hoyer for comeback win over Saints

Johnny Manziel didn't mince words when asked about fellow Cleveland Browns quarterback Brian Hoyer leading the team on a game-winning drive against the New Orleans Saints last Sunday.

"I'm f----ng proud of him!'' Manziel told reporters Friday. "I don't know if I can say that. (But) it's great. I was extremely happy for our offense to come through in a clutch situation, extremely happy for our team to come out with the win and for Brian to play extremely well on that last drive.''

Hoyer drove the Browns 85 yards in 13 plays on the team's final drive to set up kicker Billy Cundiff's game-winning 29-yard field goal with three seconds left. The loss dropped the Saints to 0-2, while the Browns improved to 1-1.

Manziel entered the game for a single play in the second quarter, handing off to running back Isaiah Crowell for a two-yard gain, before Hoyer returned. Manziel later returned for another handoff and an incomplete pass.

The rookie pivot said it was a learning experience.

No doubt (I learned a lot). It was a great job by Brian keeping his poise when it looked really dark right there for a time. Being Brian's teammate, that was incredible for us, the offense to make a big fourth-down throw like that and then the last throw to (receiver Andrew) Hawk(ins), to have enough air for him to do whatever Hawk was doing on the route....That's what it's all about.'

Hoyer connected with Hawkins on a 28-yard completion that set up Cundiff's kick.

Manziel said he appreciated getting playing time, even if it was limited.

"It was good. It was good to get the nerves off, shake a little rust off and just get out and run around for a sec. It was great.''
