Brock Holt's versatility has allowed him to play seven different positions for the Boston Red Sox this season, but a concussion has kept the rookie on the bench since Sept. 5.
The 26-year-old met with a doctor on Thursday for a follow-up exam and received some encouraging news, according to Sean McAdam of Comcast SportsNet New England:
Holt, who was a toss-in when the Red Sox acquired Joel Hanrahan from Pittsburgh last year, has been a pleasant surprise for Boston this season. In 106 games, he's hitting .281/.331/.381 with 23 doubles and 29 RBI.
With only 10 games remaining on Boston's schedule, the chances appear slim that the Red Sox will risk playing Holt again this season.
