Oklahoma State Supreme Court upholds suspension of Frank Shannon

The Oklahoma State Supreme Court upheld the Oklahoma Sooners' decision to suspend linebacker Frank Shannon for a year on Monday, according to court documents obtained by The Oklahoman.

Shannon was originally suspended by the Sooners following a Title IX investigation into a female student's allegations she was sexually assaulted by Shannon in late January. While no criminal chargers were filed, the findings of the investigation were enough for the university to impose a one-year suspension on Shannon.

Cleveland County District Judge Tracy Schumacher issued a stay in August that blocked the suspension and allowed Shannon to remain on the football team. That prompted Oklahoma to appeal to the State Supreme Court, which ruled Monday that Schumacher should not have issued the stay.

Despite remaining on the team, Shannon has not appeared in either of the Sooners' games this season, as head coach Bob Stoops opted not to play him with the situation unresolved.
