Tracy McGrady worked out with Kobe Bryant as test for possible NBA comeback

Like Michael Jordan before him, retired NBAer Tracy McGrady has cut short his attempt to hack it as a professional baseballer, and is now pondering a return to the NBA.

Per Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports, the 35-year-old McGrady worked out with Kobe Bryant in a South California gym, "three days a week for a period of time in August," while "testing the preparedness of his body for a possible NBA comeback attempt."

"Yes, I was working out with K.B. to get in shape and see how my body feels," McGrady is quoted.

Wojnarowski also reports that at least two NBA teams were contacted over the summer about their potential interest in T-Mac, but none registered a desire to explore the possibility.

Because he is slated to do a basketball tour of China in October, for which he's contractually bound, McGrady wouldn't be able to try and crack an NBA roster in training camp.

"The comeback will not happen," said McGrady, "unless I have the drive whenever I get back."

A seven-time All-Star and two-time scoring champ, McGrady's last NBA team was the San Antonio Spurs, who signed him to their playoff roster on the last day of the 2012-13 season. He appeared in six playoff games with the Spurs, playing 31 total minutes and missing all seven of his field goal attempts. He had previously played one season in China.

Over 15 NBA seasons with seven teams, McGrady posted career averages of 19.6 points, 5.6 rebounds and 4.4 assists, with playoff averages of 22.2 points, 5.7 rebounds and five assists. He twice made the All-NBA first team, thrice made the second team and twice made the third team. He finished in the top eight in league MVP voting six times.
