Wisconsin's Stave out indefinitely with shoulder injury
After a season-opening loss that saw them surrender a 24-7 second-half lead to LSU, the news for Wisconsin gets worse heading into Week 2.
Quarterback Joel Stave, who didn't see any action against the Tigers, will be out indefinitely as a result of a shoulder injury, head coach Gary Andersen announced.
Joel has been dealing with some issues with his throwing shoulder for the last couple of weeks and we have come to a decision, after talking with Joel, that the best thing for him right now is to shut it down and give him some rest. It was a tough decision because Joel is a great competitor and has a tremendous desire to help this team. We will continue to monitor his progress but we're not putting a timetable on his return at this time.
Tanner McEvoy struggled as the starter in Wisconsin's opener, so the news of Stave's injury brings some clarity as to why no change was made at quarterback throughout the game.
Andersen also announced that freshman tight end T.J. Watt would miss an extended amount of time following knee surgery, but that the team hopes to have him back at some point during the conference season.
