Adam Dunn says he plans to retire after this season following trade to Athletics

Kelley L Cox-USA TODAY Sports

If Adam Dunn's final season goes as planned, he'll win his first World Series ring before hanging his cleats up for good.

Dunn, acquired by the Oakland Athletics from the Chicago White Sox on Sunday for minor-league pitcher Nolan Sanburn, waived his no-trade clause for a chance to win with the current American League wild-card leaders.

But regardless of how the Athletics fare, Dunn appears ready to call it a career.

Dunn, 34, cleaned out his White Sox locker on Sunday for a final time and reflected on four seasons in the Windy City.

The 14-year veteran has 460 career home runs, recording at least 40 homers in six seasons. Dunn, who is in the final year of a $56-million deal signed with the White Sox in 2010, is scheduled to hit free agency this winter.
