Rangers 'pretty sure' John Moore will be signed prior to training camp

One of the final tasks facing the New York Rangers prior to the start of training camp is coming to terms on a new contract with defenseman John Moore, and assistant general manager Jeff Gorton says he's hopeful a new deal will be reached soon, as per USA TODAY.

"We like John a lot, just trying to get him signed," Gorton said. "I'm pretty sure we'll get him signed, and get him ready to go. He's a good player for us; he's been a good fit for us, he's a great kid, and we like his upside."

Moore, 23, scored four goals and added 11 assists while averaging 15:20 of ice time in 74 games for the Rangers last season; he also posted a 51.7 Corsi For rating, good for third among the team's defensemen.

The 21st overall pick in the 2009 NHL Draft was acquired from the Columbus Blue Jackets in April 2013, along with Derick Brassard and Derek Dorsett, in exchange for Marian Gaborik.

According to Capgeek, the Rangers have approximately $1.3 million in available cap space heading into the 2014-15 season.
