Denver Broncos wide receiver Wes Welker remained out of practice Monday as he continues to recover from a concussion, but head coach John Fox said he is in "very good" spirits.

Welker was injured on a hit by Houston Texans safety D.J. Swearinger during Saturday's preseason game. This is the third time since November that Welker has gone through the NFL's concussion protocol.

When asked how Welker's mood is, Fox replied, per ESPN.com: "Very good. Talked to him this morning. He's feeling good. ... He'll be out there when he's healthy."

Fox was also asked about the severity of the concussion. "I can't give a level," he replied. "It's just a concussion. I don't think there's part concussion, half concussion. Either you're concussed or you're not, the way I understand it."

Under the protocol, Welker will have to be symptom-free by Sept. 1 to be eligible to return to full practice in time for the Broncos' Sept. 7 regular-season opener against the Indianapolis Colts.

"Our first priority is his safety and well-being," Fox said. "... I know as an organization his well-being is our first priority. ... We just take it one day at a time. We'll see how he gets through today, and I get updated on every day medically on every player, including Wes in this case. We'll see what tomorrow brings."
