Eagles' LeSean McCoy forced from preseason game with sprained thumb; X-rays negative

Eric Hartline / USA TODAY Sports

Philadelphia Eagles running back LeSean McCoy returned to the sideline after undergoing X-rays on his thumb, but was declared out for the remainder of Thursday's preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

According to Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer, McCoy was diagnosed with a sprained thumb, as X-rays showed no fractures or torn ligaments.

It's unclear when McCoy sustained the injury, but NFL Media's Chris Wesseling reports that he called for the trainer after his first touch on the opening drive.

McCoy returned on the Eagles' next possession, catching a 22-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Nick Foles before being sent to the locker room.

Speaking with reporters afterwards, McCoy said he expects to be ready for the season opener.
