Report: Kevin Garnett eyeing post-retirement role with the Nets

Brooklyn Nets center Kevin Garnett is reportedly interested in a post-retirement role with the team.

The news comes via Nets broadcaster Ian Eagle, as relayed by Devin Kharpertian of The Brooklyn Game.

This could be just the start of a long-term relationship. Kevin's got a lot of interests outside of just playing basketball, as we know, and I think he saw Brooklyn as an opportunity to try to capitalize on a number of those interests. 

When the smoke clears, I wouldn't be surprised if Kevin Garnett has some role moving forward beyond his basketball-playing years, whether it's within the Nets organization, whether it's with ownership, whether it's within the marketing aspect of this team, whether it's just within Brooklyn. 

The 38-year-old center has one year remaining on his contract with the Nets, worth $12 million. He is expected to return next season and eschew retirement for a year, although that decision has not yet been officially made.

Garnett was traded to Brooklyn, along with fellow teammates Paul Pierce and Jason Terry in 2013. To date, Garnett has 19 years of NBA experience to his name, having played in the league since being drafted in 1995.

Although the former superstar has aged, and is a shell of his former self on the court, Garnett was still tremendously effective last season as a defender (finishing first in defensive real plus-minus) despite sub-par per-game averages (6.5 points, 6.6 rebounds).

On the whole, Garnett has a wealth of experience with NBA basketball, having experienced the burden of being a superstar, and also the grind of being a role player.
