James Wisniewski will not allow Blue Jackets rookies to wear scuffed shoes

Trevor Ruszkowksi / USA TODAY Sports

There are lots of ways to describe Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman James Wisniewski: power-play specialist, steady top-four defenseman, U.S. Olympic team snub, fashion cop.

The latter descriptive term is, perhaps, not a moniker that Wisniewski would've been tagged with prior to today. On Tuesday, however, the Blue Jackets blue-liner was featured in a series on Columbus based athletes by Capital Style - a Columbus based women's interests publication.

In the article, Wisniewski discusses accessories, his favorite designers (Louie Vuitton), stupid questions, and buying jeans (always a struggle for hockey players). He also beaks teammate Brandon Dubinsky's style, which yeah fair enough

Perhaps the most interesting nugget comes from an anecdote Wisniewski told about going above and beyond to ensure that young teammate Ryan Murray looked presentable on the road. In Wisniewski's words:

[Ryan Murray and I] were shopping in Washington, D.C. And this is not his fault—when you’re a young guy, a rookie, you save your money. (But) his shoes were scuffed up, and I was like, “Man, you can’t wear those.” So I spent $250 on a nice pair of black shoes and went to his door and was like, “Here man.” I love the kid.

So take note Blue Jackets rookies, wearing scuffed up footwear is forbidden by the edict of officer Wisniewski.

Finally, here's the photo that accompanies the feature. Hard to imagine any player will remember this and chirp Wisniewski for it on the ice next season.
