Costa Rica exit World Cup with more than twice as many offsides drawn than any other side
One thing we've learned at the World Cup is that Costa Rica possess one of the greatest defenses in international football.
With a five-man back line that conceded only two goals in five matches and arguably the most impressive goalkeeper of the tournament in Keylor Navas, Costa Rica's defense allowed the side to punch above their weight and reach the World Cup quarterfinals for the first time in the tiny Central American nation's history.
For an idea of just how impressive Costa Rica's defensive communication was over the course of the team's five matches, take a look at the number of offside traps that it forced upon their opposition.

Consistently forcing opposing teams into an offside position is the mark of a top defensive side. It's impressive enough that Costa Rica lead the category by so much, but the fact that they've done so with a five-man back line — meaning an extra brain must be entered into the equation — is absolutely ridiculous.
Of course, there's still time for the tournament's four remaining sides to surpass Costa Rica. But looking at the numbers, it's safe to say that no team will come close to touching Los Ticos' 39 offsides drawn.
