Carolina Panthers defensive end Greg Hardy's trial for allegedly assaulting and threatening to kill his ex-girlfriend is scheduled for next month.

Hardy will face two misdemeanor charges when the trial begins on July 15, the 25-year-old's attorney told the Charlotte Observer

That's also the deadline for the Panthers to sign the franchise-tagged Hardy to a contract extension, according to Pro Football Talk.

Hardy joined Charlotte radio station WFNZ for an interview on Tuesday afternoon, and his line disconnected after he was asked about his contract:

Nicole Holder told police Hardy attacked her in the early morning of May 13 during an afterparty at the player's condo.

Per the Observer:

Holder, 24, accused the 6-foot-4, 290-pound Hardy of throwing her to the floor and into a bathtub, strangling her, slamming her into a futon that was covered with guns, and threatening to shoot her if she told anyone about the fight.

Hardy rejoined the Panthers days after the incident, participating in the team's voluntary workouts.

He turned over 10 guns as part of a court order after his arrest, including "at least six military-type, semi-automatic rifles and three 12-gauge shotguns", per the publication.

He has not faced disciplined from the NFL. The Panthers will open training camp on July 25.
