Report: Wolves think Celtics' current offer is the best they'll get for Kevin Love

Jesse Johnson / USA Today Sports

The Minnesota Timberwolves still don't want to trade power forward Kevin Love, but as they begin to come to grips with the possibility, the Boston Celtics stand out as the most likely landing place for the sharpshooter.

While Love hasn't said publicly whether he would agree to pick up his 2015-16 player option if he was dealt to Boston, that's not a sticking point for the Celtics like it is for most teams. Reports earlier in the process indicated that Boston was confident it could retain Love if he became a free agent, and the team surely became more confident when Love took a controversial trip to the city recently.

So if the Celtics are in, what would the Wolves be looking at as a return? Boston is said to have dangled the No. 6 pick in the draft, the No. 17 pick, future first round picks and young players to entice Minnesota, according to ESPN's Chad Ford.

From Ford:

One source close to the Wolves said that while Flip Saunders does not want to trade Love, he realizes the team likely will lose him this summer and the package the Celtics are offering is probably the best he's going to get. Given the strength of the draft, picks 6, 13 and 17 could land them three young starters to help them rebuild their roster quickly.

Ford's most recent mock draft pegs Aaron Gordon and Zach Lavine as the Nos. 6 and 17 picks, respectively, and pencils the Wolves taking Nik Stauskas at No. 13. Those three, combined with Ricky Rubio, Gorgui Dieng and perhaps Kelly Olynyk and/or Jared Sullinger, would form a fairly decent core in short order.

So, it might be worth mentally preparing for a landscape-changing trade on draft night.
