Tommy Haas will miss remainder of 2014 season with torn sub-scapular tendon

On Monday morning, Tommy Haas announced he will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder and will miss the remainder of the 2014 season.

Haas is scheduled to fly to New York and have the surgery on Tuesday. He admitted his injury is what caused him to retire from his opening match at Roland Garros last month:

It's been a struggle since the beginning of the year obviously and I've already had to retire in matches, which is never fun. Last week I had to take another MRI after Paris because it was a severe thing I felt again in the shoulder. Unfortunately it's an injury I've already had before that was fixed, but my sub-scapular tendon is torn again.

Haas is a 15-time ATP world tour titlist, and has been named Comeback Player of the Year twice, once as recently as 2012. If that's any indication, he won't let this injury end his career.

"I want to hopefully come back again at some point and finish my career on my own terms when I'm ready for it," he said. "I'll try everything I can."
